Kiwanis plan chili cookoff

The 13th annual Mineola Kiwanis Chili Cook off is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mineola Civic Center.

This will be the second year featuring the First Responders Challenge. Firefighters, police and emergency personnel from around the area will be brewing the chili. They include  Mineola and Alba Fire Departments, Retired Firefighters Club, Mineola ISD police, Lands End Volunteer Fire Dept. and UT Health, also a major sponsor of the event

Sliced desserts and canned drinks will be available for $1. The public will decide the “People’s Choice” award with their tips for best tasting chili. Celebrity judges will decide on “Best Tasting Chili” and “Best Looking Booth.”

A silent auction with lots of great items and a live dessert auction will be held. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from Mineola Kiwanis Club members. Sponsors include City National Bank, Mineola Community Bank, East Texas National Bank, Monica Cook- State Farm Insurance, Sam and Joyce Curry, Mineola Fire Department and Texas Farm Bureau – Juan Carrasco.
