Lady Bulldogs continue district softball play
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs had a tough spring break, dropping two road games in district play. The Bulldogs lost to Malakoff 19-3 on Tuesday and then struggled again, losing to Grand Saline 15-0 on Friday.
Quitman opened the week Tuesday at Malakoff, after moving the game from Quitman due to the weather. The Lady Bulldogs battled throughout the game and managed to collect five hits. Izzy Dreiling, Abby Johnson, Chloe Jones, Lola Hayes and Elizabeth Boykin each recorded a hit.
The Lady Bulldogs also produced three runs, with Johnson, Hayes and Boykin each driving in a run. Quitman’s defense also turned a double play. Quitman struggled to keep up with Malakoff’s strong offense and ultimately fell 19-3.
Quitman returned to action on Friday at Grand Saline, where the Lady Bulldogs again fought to come back after an explosive first inning that left Grand Saline up 13-0. The Lady Bulldogs were never able to find their groove, despite Audrina Gist and Hayes each recording hits.
Quitman will try to mount a comeback at home this week, when the Lady Bulldogs host Winona. Then they’ll be back on the road again as they play in Edgewood on March 20.
