Lady Bulldogs deal out retribution against Edgewood Bulldogs
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs doled out retribution for their December loss against the Edgewood Bulldogs as they thoroughly overpowered them Friday. They won 63-41 at Delbert Ballard Gym.
With a packed home crowd cheering them on, Quitman set the tone early and never let up. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 19-8 – closer than Edgewood would get the rest of the night.
Quitman continued to control the pace in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a commanding 36-17 advantage.
Laine Kelly opened the second half with a smooth 3-pointer, sparking another strong run as Quitman kept the lead 47-31 by the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs continued their relentless drive in the fourth quarter, eventually beating the Edgewood Bulldogs 63-41.
Addison Sapp led the scoring with 19 points, recording six rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Laine Kelly added 17 points, three rebounds, five steals and an assist. Autumn Cason contributed 12 points and two steals, while Kinsley McCutcheon added eight points and two rebounds. Erin VanderSchaaf posted four points, four rebounds and two assists. Lynlee Taylor scored three points and had an assist, and Kaylin Sapp chipped in three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Coach Blake Hamrick praised his team, specifically noting that he was proud of the girls for the energy they brought the game, and for the class they showed throughout a very physical game.
“It was a good win, and they’ve done a great job doing everything they need to do these last two weeks,” said Hamrick. “Hopefully, we can continue to do all the necessary things as we finish out district.”
Quitman is 4-0 at home in district play and 5-2 overall in district, sitting just behind Mineola in the standings.
