Lady Bulldogs defeated by Mt. Vernon
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs split softball games, losing a close one to Mt. Vernon on Monday, March 11 and winning big against Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill on Wednesday, the 13th.
A late Quitman rally was not enough in the 7-5 loss.
Mt. Vernon scored two runs in the first inning and Quitman unable to score until the bottom of the second inning when Peyton Kruckner hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher that allowed Chloe Jones to score.
The Lady Tigers scored two more runs in the bottom of the third inning bringing the score to 4-1 in their favor. Both teams were shut out until Mt. Vernon scored again in the top of the fifth inning and sixth innings, leading Quitman 6-1.
Quitman came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring four runs to bring the game to 6-5. Addison Marcee walked to start the sixth inning and Hannah Holland followed with a line drive to left field for a single.
Ashley Davis hit a line drive to right field for a double, allowing Marcee to score. Kennedi Elmore followed with a double, scoring Holland and Davis. Elmore scored when Larkin Spears banged out a double to shortstop.
The Lady Tigers managed to score one more run in the top of the seventh inning. The Bulldogs were unable to rally again though.
