Sixteen-year-old Hawkins High School junior Ava Ellison has become a key player in the Lady Hawks volleyball program. Nominated by coach Christy McQueen, Ellison has been a member of the team since her freshman year and continues to make her mark on the court.
Ellison’s hard work and dedication were recognized during the 2025 season when she earned Server of the Year honors. Now serving as team captain and primary setter, she leads the Lady Hawks through her skills, work ethic and determination.
A consistent presence on and off the court, Ellison is committed to improving every day, both in the classroom and in athletics. When faced with adversity, she responds with perseverance, earning the trust and respect of her teammates and coaches.
Her commitment to athletics extends beyond volleyball. Ellison is a three-sport athlete, competing as a starting guard on the basketball team and a starting infielder on the softball team. Balancing three sports while maintaining strong academics and serving as a team leader reflects her discipline and dedication.
Ellison leads by example, embraces challenges and puts in the work to improve her skills while supporting her teammates.
McQueen has watched Ellison grow since freshman year.
“Watching her grow from a freshman finding her place in this program to the confident leader she is today has been one of the most rewarding parts of coaching her. She has earned every opportunity she’s been given through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to her teammates,” McQueen said.
As Ellison continues to lead the Lady Hawks, her dedication to her teammates and willingness to put in the work reflect the qualities that have helped her develop as an athlete and leader.
