The Mineola Lady Jackets faced the Winona Ladycats at home Friday after honoring four seniors, Kenleigh Aguirre, Lauren Simmons, Aubree Smith and Audrey Dowdle during pregame. They made short work of the Ladycats with a 22–4 victory in just three innings.

Jocelyn Whitehead took the mound, starting off with two strikeouts before getting a little errant, limiting the damage to two runs in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the opening frame, Mineola walloped Winona at the plate. All nine Lady Jackets scored before a single out was recorded, and they batted around twice on their way to a 17-2 lead after an inning.

Whitehead gave up a couple walks before throwing her third strikeout. The only hit she gave up all game drove in a run and another scored on a smart fielder’s choice by Brooke Louderman at second base. From behind the plate, Jaycee Smith caught a runner out with a sniping throw to Simmons at third to bring Mineola back to the plate up 17-4.

The Lady Jackets batted around once more, with everyone getting a hit except Allie Hooten, who reached base by being hit by a pitch. They scored five runs before head coach Taelor Cheshier instructed baserunners to commit running errors to get out and stop the onslaught, teaching her athletes some solid sportsmanship.

Whitehead opened the third with a strikeout followed by two walks and finished off Winona with two more strikeouts, bringing her total to six K’s in three innings.

Aguirre, Simmons, Audrey Dowdle and Jaycee Smith had three hits apiece. Whitehead and Jaycee Smith hit two doubles each, while Dowdle and Whitehead both drove in four runs.
