Lady Jackets district champs
Mineola High School girls won the district golf championship Monday to earn a return trip to the regional tournament April 19-20.
Ava Johnson led the way with scores of 84-78=162 to earn second medalist. Sunni Ruffin shot 84-89=173, Savannah Lopez 91-87=178 and Bransyn Anderson 111-100=211 to give the Lady Jackets a team score of 724, some 143 shots ahead of second place Mt. Vernon.
Also competing for Mineola were Valerie Moreland at 132-139=271, Sarah Smith at 123-118=241 and Ramsey Anderson 141-133=274.
For Quitman Ava Burroughs shot 136-143=239 and Alexis O’Neal 127-126=253.
Mineola boys placed third led by Jack Heard at 89-99=198, T.J. Moreland 98-91=189, Oliver Barnes 110-104=214 and Buddy Ruffin 103-111=214.
Parker Simpkins paced Quitman with 99-87=186 and Lawson Ballard 115-103=218.
