I moved to Mineola almost three years ago after spending the rest of my years in Dallas.

I embraced the slower pace, less traffic and friendly people.

On Wednesday before Thanksgiving I went to the post office to pick up my mail. Oddly my truck wouldn’t start, so I had to leave it and my wife picked me up. The next time the Ford dealership was open, on Friday morning, I had the truck towed over.

The service manager told me that before they could assess the problem, they needed to put a couple of gallons of fuel in the truck –  it was completely empty.

When I left the truck in front of the post office on Wednesday, it had a full tank of gas. Someone had apparently pulled up to my truck and siphoned out all my fuel.

Mineola, you are better than this. I would be less surprised if I was still in Dallas, but we need to be better neighbors out here in East Texas.

If someone needed gas that badly, they can have it.

I’m hopeful that we will look out for each other here in Mineola and treat each other with respect and kindness.
