Letters to the editor
Dear editor:
Today’s economic climate sees the average family struggling to put food on the table and pay their bills. The monthly struggle is difficult and choices need to be made. Necessities become a priority as the family tightens their belts.
Next month the Commissioner’s Court decides on a budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The Wood County Sheriff has requested approximately $92,000 for an animal shelter in Wood County, to deal with strays and animal related problems. Given the current situation in Wood County this is a necessity and will be a benefit to the county.
The Election Office on the other hand is requesting $100,000 for print-on-demand printers and controllers for each precinct. This is an unnecessary convenience. Preprinted ballots by approved printer in Houston can be obtained for $0.165/ballot, while print-on-demand printers use more expensive paper from a single source vendor.
Plain and simple, we need an animal shelter, whereas we do not need print-on-demand printers and controllers for our elections.
