Dear editor:

I’m very disappointed our city leadership decided to take such a myopic approach to a once in a lifetime opportunity.

In 2017 our family drove late into the night to Kansas City to catch the eclipse, only to wake to rain and storms. We headed east and came upon a state park in Missouri holding an eclipse watching party that enabled us to catch less than minute of totality. It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had.

It is with great excitement that we are going to get nearly four minutes of totality in April. Our nature preserve is the perfect location for such an event.

The businesses in our amazing town would get the opportunity to capitalize on all the visitors that stopped in to see the event. It is sad we are unable to successfully plan, years in the making, to share something as breathtaking as the eclipse. A huge missed opportunity for both businesses and visitors looking to experience something they will remember for a lifetime.
