Local Democrats represent at state convention

Eight Wood County residents serving as delegates of the local Democratic Party attended the Texas State Democratic Party Convention in El Paso.

They competed aggressively with over 5,000 other delegates across the state. Three Wood County delegates were chosen to serve as delegates to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Convention in Chicago in August: Madeline (Maddy) Gibson, female representative from Quitman, Tracy Jay Miller, male representative from Winnsboro and Jhavier Law, alternate representative from Jarvis Christian University, Hawkins.

Also, Law served on the Presidential Nominating Committee. Gibson was elected to the Permanent Platform Committee, and Miller was elected to the Permanent Rules Committee.

Other members of the Wood County delegation elected to essential positions were Jeff Goin (Holly Lake Ranch), corresponding secretary for the Texas Democratic Environmental Caucus, and Dr. Judy G. Traylor, alternate elector for the state. Traylor was also re-elected to serve a second term on the board of the Texas Democratic County Chair Association.

Other delegates from Wood County who actively supported their fellow delegates were Darrell Campbell of Yantis, Colten Murphy of Mineola and Melissa Laurent of Winnsboro.
