Lone Oak pulls away from Quitman
The Quitman Bulldogs showed promise early but couldn’t hold off a strong Lone Oak offense Friday night, falling 41-19 in district play.
Quitman started aggressively, recovering an onside kick to open the game and quickly setting the tone. After a few early turnovers by both teams, the Bulldogs broke through when quarterback Jonathan Hayes pushed into the end zone on a sneak, giving Quitman a 7-0 lead following a good extra point.
Lone Oak answered with a touchdown but failed on the conversion, allowing Quitman to stay in front 7-6.
The Bulldogs struck again as Ben Bosclair powered through defenders for another touchdown, extending Quitman’s advantage to 13-6.
However, Lone Oak’s offense began to find its rhythm, tying the game at 13 before recovering their own kickoff and scoring again to take a 20-13 lead.
As halftime approached, Lone Oak added another touchdown to widen the gap to 27-13, but Quitman continued to battle. The Bulldogs responded with a strong drive capped off by another touchdown, narrowing the deficit to 27-19 before the break.
The second half turned defensive, with both teams trading punts and turnovers early. Lone Oak eventually broke through again, capitalizing on a Quitman miscue to stretch their lead to 34-19. Despite a late Quitman interception near their own goal line, Lone Oak managed to add one final touchdown to close out the 41-19 win.
