Marine Corps League detachment joining national wreath project

Posted

The Marine Corps League detachment in Wood County has begun a new mission and will be hosting the laying of wreaths at the Roselawn Cemetery in Mineola in conjunction with Wreaths Across America and Beaty Funeral Home.

The Wreaths Across America event is planned Dec. 17 during which a wreath is laid on each of the veterans’ graves.

Those with a friend or family member, a business that wants to participate or a community member who wants to show support may donate.

A wreath may be purchased at any time, the sooner the better, so the detachment can determine an accurate count of wreaths to make sure all veterans are honored.

Wreaths are $15 and donors may list the family member or friend where they want it laid and may also lay the wreath themselves.

Churches, businesses and community groups are invited to take part and come out to help lay wreaths following a ceremony at the funeral home.

Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.

To donate or purchase a wreath visit Wreaths Across America or mail a check to Wood County Marine Corps League, payable to Wreaths Across America (WAA), P.O. Box 564, Mineola TX 75773. Note Group ID (TX1102P) and Location ID (TXBFHM). Include the name of the veteran and a contact number.
