Masat doubles up at bluegrass contest

Sterling Masat entered the Texas State Bluegrass Instrument Contest April 23 and 24 in Dallas at the Doubletree Inn. Sterling took first place in mandolin on Friday, then followed up with first place champion banjo on Saturday. He learned the basics while traveling with his parents, Ken and Margo of Alba, in their Masat Family Band through 46 states for 14 years. He now works full-time for the Aaron Watson Country Band.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
