The 6th Annual Jake Wilson Memorial Bass Tournament will be held April 22, headquartered at the Minnow Bucket Marina on Lake Fork on Hwy. 154 just south of the bridge.

The tournament is for a two-person team with entry fee of $160 per team. The first place team will receive $2,000. The tournament has grown each year since the first one was held in 2018. Cash prizes are given to the top 10 finishers. There is also a $500 cash prize for the day’s big bass.

The tournament is from 6:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Anglers can leave the boat ramp of their choice at 6:30 a.m. and must be in line by 3 p.m.

Jake passed away Aug. 30, 2017 from injuries suffered in a vehicle crash while in Mexico working.

He loved being involved with the Boy Scouts where he achieved Eagle Scout. He attended the DeSoto Fire Academy to become a fireman. At 20, he met Brandi Sadler. They were married at New Frontiers Cowboy Church where he and Brandi became praise and worship leaders and eventually, children’s pastors.

His mother, Diane Wilson, said Jake loved fishing and going hunting with friends and his dad, Charley.

“He was fun to be around and loved life. His relationships with God and his family were the most important relationships in his life.” Diane said. ”We have the annual bass fishing tournament at Lake Fork, and at this event we offer a free kid fish. Texas Parks and Wildlife will be there with us to help the children learn the art of catching fish. Jake loved all children. He and his wife Brandi had three biological children and were in the process of adopting two sisters at the time of his death. “

Money raised from the tournament goes to selected children’s organizations which advance education and social group participation.
