Memorial Day event planned at courthouse

In honor of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice, the Wood County Military Monument Committee will be hosting a short Memorial Day Ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 29 at the Wood County Courthouse.

Jim Attaway, Quitman city administrator, will give the welcome. Billy Grant will offer the invocation. Joe Sayles will leads the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest speaker is Mike Billman, retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander.

The program will conclude with the flag ceremony and the playing of “Taps” by David Hartley.

There will be benches in place for seating, but lawn chairs may be brought.

In the event of adverse weather, the ceremony will move inside to the district courtroom.
