Mineola, Alba-Golden teams compete at Rains XC meet

Posted

A long line of colorful jerseys snaked their way around the pastures adjacent to Rains schools last Thursday at the Rains Invitational cross-country meet. Twenty-eight teams produced over 120 runners in each of the boys and girls varsity races.

Given the heat, it was a good thing that the course was mostly level. A brush-hogged trail circled three tall pastures in a clover leaf circuit.

Alba-Golden presented seven varsity runners on the boys team, while freshman Skye Dollar was the sole female trailblazer for the Panthers. Mineola fielded a full girls team – which finished fourth overall – and had four runners on the varsity boys team.

A combination of small and large schools made the trip to Emory for the meet. Canton, Bells and Paris finished in the top three places of the girls 2-mile race. In the boys’ 5-kilometer race, Henderson won the meet with Wills Point and Texas High finishing second and third, respectively.

The cross-country season is nearing its culmination. Alba-Golden has two meets remaining (Hawkins and Lindale) before the district race Oct. 12 at North Hopkins High School. The Yellowjackets will participate in the Tyler Legacy Invitational before their district meet Oct. 8 at Quitman.

Individual times for Mineola and Alba-Golden girl runners were Olivia Hughes 14:21.97 (third place); Raylie Peebles 15:29.85 (twelfth place); Shylah Kratzmeyer (22nd place) 16:04.46; Yareli Hernandez 18:03.63; Jaylee Nevarez 18:09.54; Brianna Palacious 18:17.32; Skye Dollar 19:07.86; Marian Delgadillo 19:49.94; and Destiny Gandy 20:03.86.

Boy runners posted the following times: Tristan Wells 20:24.69 (25th place); Cris Alejo 20:51.17; Brandt Peterson 20:54.05; Sail Barriga 21:08.95; Alex Reyes 21:14.01; Issac Hartin 22:06.82; Hudson Wright 23:33.27; Garrett Wright 23:55.13; Drake Duplechain 24:22.74; Otis Lee 24:29.59; and Collin Nichols 27:12.74.
