The marching band competition season is heating up. Saturday the Quitman Proud Blue band finished fifth at the Pleasant Grove Invitational marching contest. It was stout competition, as three of the bands finishing ahead of Quitman were finalists at the last UIL 3A state marching contest in 2021.

The Mineola Sound of the Swarm marching band will host its 7th annual marching festival Monday, Oct. 9.

Some 23 bands are expected for the day-long event at Meredith Memorial Stadium.

Last weekend the band swept all 3A class awards at the Sunnyvale festival:

Best in Class Color Guard
Best in Class Percussion
Best in Class Drum Majors
Best in Class Winds
Best in Class 3A Band

The Swarm was the only 3A band to advance to finals and placed third over all, behind two Class 4A bands.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
