Mineola City Council proclaims Coach LC Gregory Day
The Mineola City Council passed a proclamation naming Feb. 23, 2026 – the day of their meeting – as Coach Leonard Charles “LC” Gregory Day in Mineola.
According to the proclamation, which was read by councilmember Cassandra Sampson, Gregory was a hugely influential coach at the Addie E. McFarland school before its closure in 1966. Citizen Rufus Jackson pointed out that, not only was Gregory “a” coach at the school, but that McFarland only had one coach – for football, baseball, basketball, and track.
“Enough can’t be stated about the incomparable LC Gregory as coach at McFarland – one who impacted and guided the lives of so many students,” said Sampson. “We appreciate and honor a well-deserved legacy, such as Coach Gregory and Addie E. McFarland.”
The council also noted that they will not have an election, as the seats were uncontested. The council will have a new member in May, as incumbent Polly Jones did not seek re-election, and newcomer Greg Souser did.
The council also discussed implementing an ordinance for noise levels within the city, but took no action. They approved a date change for the Rock the Pines Christian concert from Sept. 28-Oct. 4 to Aug. 31-Sept. 6. The date change was due to the artists’ availability. City official Jennifer Henson noted that the event has already sold 1,300-1,400 tickets.
