Mineola council OKs requests from Meredith
Funds to complete the 1888 Plaza at Commerce and S. Johnson Streets leads the list of requests from the city of Mineola to the Meredith Foundation.
The project was started with American Rescue Plan federal dollars, and the city is asking for $159,000 to complete the project which will include restrooms, seating area and charging stations for electronic devices.
The second-ranked request is $10,372 for mobile lockers for the fire department. The lockers will meet new requirements for fire gear storage and allow them to be moved around for convenience.
The police department is next on the list for $50,000 to outfit two new vehicles the department has purchased.
Fourth on the list is the annual request for operating funds for the Mineola Historical Museum at $38,000.
The Landmark Commission has requested $63,762 for the ninth phase of improvements to Iron Horse Square Park which would construct a pavilion and stage on the concrete slab in the center of the park.
The final request for $10,000 would aid in the restarting of a project to add a dog park at the Mineola Civic Center. Some $2,515 was raised before the project was shelved due to the pandemic.
The total of the city’s request is for $331,134.
The foundation announces its grants after the first of the year.
