Mineola Economic Development Commission discusses hotel build, downtown construction
The Mineola Economic Development Corporation approved an amendment tied to a proposed hotel development project. The change allows Social Network Group, LLC to assign its rights and obligations to its parent company – a move intended to streamline development. The project will include a five-year completion timeline, pending city council approval.
Updates were also provided on several local projects and events. According to city officials, the Meredith Foundation has committed $50,000 to help turn the empty lot across from the train depot into a gathering space, entertainment venue, and additional downtown parking. Work continues on the lot, though progress has slowed because of engineering and drainage requirements.
Meanwhile, the upcoming “Rock the Pines” event is generating strong interest, with more than 2,000 tickets sold and RV spaces already filled. Officials said overall conditions remain positive, with continued growth and community engagement expected in the coming months.
In other business, officials discussed the potential adoption of a Property Assessed Clean Energy, or PACE, program. The initiative would allow commercial and multifamily property owners to finance energy-efficiency upgrades through long-term loans tied to the property. Officials said the program is structured to protect the city from financial risk.
The commission also reported a steady financial performance for the fiscal year, despite a slight dip in monthly revenue. Even with the decrease, the board remains ahead for the year, reporting a 2.1% increase over the first six months.
