Mineola EDC loses board member
The Mineola Economic Development Corp. board is in search of a new member.
Becky Moore’s resignation was accepted “with regret” on Tuesday, May 28. She and husband Joel Moore have moved from the community to be nearer to grandchildren.
The MEDC will send recommendations to the city council, which will appoint a new member to the 7-member board.
Assistant Director Owen Tiner updated the board on upgrades to the city of Mineola’s website and cell phone app, which are under way.
The new app must be downloaded from app stores as it is a new app, rather than an update to the original app.
He said it will make coordinating the web site, app and social media platforms more seamless.
Tiner also reported that travel and tourism statistics show a return to pre-COVID levels.
A recent demographics report shows that there are now 7,100 residents within three miles of Mineola and 10,000 within five miles, despite the city’s population being just under 5,000.
The board took no action following a lengthy closed session concerning an economic development project.
