Mineola girls second in area track meet
Mineola girls finished runner-up at last Wednesday’s area track meet, scoring 90 point to trail only Atlanta with 106.
Mineola won the 1600-meter relay in 4:07.35 with the team of Carmen Carrasco, Tanner Hartzog, Shylah Kratzmeyer and Raylie Peebles.
Others with finishes in the top four to qualify for the regional meet Friday and Saturday in Whitehouse included Peebles (3rd) in the 400 meters and (2nd) in the 800 meters, Allie Hooton (2nd) in the 100 -meter hurdles, Caroline Castleberry (4th) in the 300-meter hurdles, the 400-meter relay team (3rd) of Hartzog, Carrasco, Abbie Dobbs and Kratzmeyer, the 800-meter relay team (2nd) of Dobbs, Hartzog, Kratzmeyter and Carrasco and Kratzmeyer (2nd) in the pole vault.
Quitman girls got wins from Braleigh Wood in the 800 meters (2:25.39) and 3200 meters (12:17.86) and Savana Smith in the 100-meter hurdles (17.05).
Other Quitman regional qualifiers were Katie DeGorostize (2nd), Madyson Pence (3rd) and McKenna Wood (4th) in the 1600 meters, Pence (2nd) and DeGiorostize (4th) in the 3200 meters, Abigail Day (3rd) in the shot put, Kennedi Elmore (3rd) in the discus and Sadie VanderSchaaf (3rd) in the high jump.
Quitman boys regional qualifiers included Dakota Jimenez (4th) in the 800 meters and the 1600 meters, Christian Plata (3rd) in the 3200 meters and Brady Floyd (3rd) in the pole vault.
Mineola boys regional qualifiers were J.J. Gandy (2nd) in the 110-meter hurdles and Trey Rushing (2nd) in the discus.
