Mineola ISD trustees approve guardians, meal price increases
The Mineola Independent School District Board of Trustees met for its regular monthly meeting Monday, Aug. 17, inside the newly named Glen Dossett CTE Center.
Board President Rodney Watkins called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. after confirming a quorum was present. The meeting began slightly later than scheduled because of opening festivities at the new career and technical education facility.
Following the call to order, the board provided time for public comment, but no community members addressed trustees. At 6:57 p.m., the board entered closed session to discuss matters authorized under Texas law.
The board reconvened in open session at 7:14 p.m. Superintendent Cody Mize gave the invocation, followed by the pledges of allegiance.
During the superintendent’s report, Mize announced that the district has recorded 236 student transfers so far. He said the district expects strong enrollment this school year, with final transfer counts and overall enrollment numbers expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
After returning from closed session, the board voted unanimously to approve the designated list of district guardians for the 2026-27 school year. Trustees took no other formal action on items discussed in closed session.
Board members also received the August financial reports and tax collection updates.
Turning to action items, trustees unanimously approved the meeting minutes and several other agenda items. Among the measures approved were the Texas Reading Academies; a memorandum of understanding with Region 7; an updated adult meal price schedule; a request for proposals related to a Jobs and Education for Texans grant for the auto shop; and an amendment to the district’s 2025-26 budget.
Under the updated adult meal prices, breakfast will cost $3.60, a 10-cent increase, and lunch will cost $5.50, a 50-cent increase.
Mineola ISD board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21.
