Mineola library has busy year with bills paid

Despite a series of major repairs during the year, the Mineola Memorial Library is in good shape financially, reported Library Director Mary Hurley at last Thursday’s annual meeting.

She said the bills are all paid, despite having major repairs to the bookmobile, replacing the roof on the secondary building and replacing a 24-year-old air conditioning unit.

The library’s investments, which help fund operations, has doubled in the past five years and sits at $4.4 million.

The library gained 383 new patrons, she reported, and has 3,422 active patrons who made more than 12,000 visits during the year.

They checked out more than 26,000 items, with a total value of $475,000.

The library has been busy, putting on 175 programs attended by 2,257 and another 77 outreach programs that impacted 941 people.

With a total operating budget of $270,000, the library provided $534,000 in services, which Hurley said is an excellent return on investment.

She also had high praise for the staff, who kept things running despite some staff vacancies during the year.
