Mineola Library Notes
School is out — time for summer reading. Time to read what you want at a pace you can enjoy.
Don’t forget about the Texas America 250 Reading Challenge for all ages. Participants are encouraged to read 2,500 minutes by Dec. 31, 2026. Reading, listening to books, volunteering in your community and attending a program at a state or national park all count toward the challenge. Rewards are available at every 250-minute milestone. Pick up a form at the Mineola Memorial Library, 301 N. Pacific St., Mineola.
“Unearth a Story” is this year’s summer reading theme. Wednesdays at 2 p.m. through July 1, 2026, the library will host a program for children. Participants will enjoy activities and receive weekly reading challenges. The library will also track reading minutes, so visitors may notice evidence of participants’ efforts throughout the summer.
The library will also visit the primary and intermediate school campuses on Tuesdays during summer school. Staff members will present a brief program and provide students with the opportunity to check out books.
The library will be closed Saturday, July 4, so staff members can celebrate Independence Day.
The library will be unable to accept physical donations of materials during the summer months due to limited space. Monetary donations are still being accepted. Watch Facebook for pop-up book sales.
Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization independent of the city and county. Donations may be tax-deductible. The library recently received a memorial donation for James Hollis from the Byford family.
