We celebrated International Mahjong Day on Saturday, August 1, and it was well received. Beginning in September, we will offer Mahjong on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from noon to 2 p.m. If you are an experienced player, come join us and share your expertise with new players. Watch our website and Facebook page for the dates.
YAC (Youth Advisory Committee) hosted a Back to School event on Wednesday, August 12. Participants made origami bookmarks, pennants, pencil charms and magnets that looked like pencils. And, of course, snacks were served.
There will be an American Girls Tea Party on Saturday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to noon. This tea party is for girls ages 7 and older and their moms. Come join the party, enjoy some activities and learn about the American Girls Club and how to be a part of it.
That afternoon, August 29, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Native Plant Society of Texas: Lakes and Pines Chapter will host a program on monarch butterflies and milkweed. Registration is required by emailing lakes-and-pines-chapter@npsot.org.
Many of our usual activities will resume in September, some at different times. Here’s a quick rundown: Toddlers on Tuesdays will begin September 1 at the new time of 10 a.m.; also new is After school at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning September 1; YAC will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m., beginning September 1; Preschool on Wednesdays will resume at 10 a.m. beginning September 2; and Read to a Dog will be Saturday, September 12, at the special time of 9 a.m. due to the holiday.
Heads up: We will be closed Saturday, September 5, for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
We are still accepting monetary donations only.
