Mineola Library Notes
And just like that, September has arrived and we are off! Please note, we will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, for the Labor Day weekend holiday. Our regularly scheduled programs resume this month, along with some new things we are going to try.
Tuesdays at 10 a.m. will be Toddler Story Time for children ages 18 months to 3 years with their parent or caregiver. They get to play, meet new people and friends, participate in an activity and hear a story. The program is about an hour long.
Also on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. is Afterschool STREAM for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents must remain in the library, or they can join the activity. Each week will have a different focus, beginning with science, followed by technology, reading, engineering, art and math.
Wednesdays at 10 a.m. will be Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 5 with a parent or caregiver. Up to three stories will be read, followed by a related activity. This program lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of participants and the activity.
The first and third Fridays at 10 a.m. are for Homeschool Heroes, an opportunity for homeschool families to meet, network and complete an activity together. This program is about an hour long.
Read to a Dog will be Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 to 10 a.m. Trained therapy dogs and their trainers will be on hand to listen to stories participants read to them. Normally, this event is held on the first Saturday of the month, but we took the holiday.
The American Girls Historical Reading Club meets the second Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. Registration is required, as space is limited. The club is for girls age 7 and older with their mothers. This is a time to spend together learning about history through games, crafts and snacks.
We’ve started hosting Mahjong on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from noon to 2 p.m. Experienced players and novices play together and learn the game.
We hope to see you at some of our activities!
