Greetings all! The holiday season is upon us. Lots of things to celebrate and remember.

Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11 with our great hometown parade. We thank our veterans for their service. Because of them, we have the freedoms that we have today. If you would like to read about service men and women, we have a variety of books to choose from.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and with family and friends joining together, you might want some ideas for recipes, decorating and crafts. We have books for those ideas. For the children we also have stories about turkeys and thankfulness.

Our Thankful Bird is once again in our entry way. Jot down something on a feather for which you are thankful, then place the feather on the bird. It’s great to see how much there is to be thankful for.

Activities for November include Toddler Story Time on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. for the 18-month to 3-year old crowd and their parent or caregiver.

Tuesday afternoons our Math Club is back, making math fun through games and other activities.

Wednesday morning is Preschool Story Time at 10 a.m. Children 3 to 5 years of age along with their parent or caregiver will hear stories and do something related to the stories such as art, songs, or games.

Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. will be our Green Crafts making napkin rings. This is a program for adults, all materials are provided, and project can be completed within an hour.

Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. is Home School Heroes. The children will be making talking sticks while the adults converse and network about opportunities and resources.

We will be closed Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving so our staff may spend time with family and friends and enjoy a day of rest.

Quick note: the winner of the pumpkin contest was the Cat-woman pumpkin. Her creator has bragging rights for the year.

Finally, we are beginning to accept book, audio book and DVD donations. There is a limit of three boxes per household per day. We just don’t have the room to take and review an entire truckload at one time. Remember, if it’s something that you would not have in your house due to condition, please, do not bring it to the library. Donations may be used in the library, for outreach, for projects or to support the library through other ways.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
