Mineola Memorial Library Notes

Summer has arrived. Well, maybe not by the calendar but definitely by the heat!

Did you notice? The yard has been mowed. It still needs work and I am looking into that.

Camp We Read has begun at the library. Our first session saw about 26 children and parents.  They created rock art, made constellations and received their first reading challenge.

Each week for six weeks, they can work on those challenges and then they will get a rock to commemorate how many challenges they completed as well as getting to decorate a rock for each program attended.

We are going to place the rocks in the windows around the children’s department.  Watch the number grow.

Toddler Story Time will continue on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. for children ages 18 months to 3 years.  It is a time to meet new friends, learn to play together and hear a story.

Home-school Heroes will only meet on the third Friday of the month during June, July and August.

June 21 will begin at 10 a.m. This will be Candy Wars where participants will learn facts, history and the science of candy by playing games and doing simple experiments.

We have the opportunity to visit summer school and we take a very quick program to the students and allow them to check out a book to read during the week. We managed to be there even though a hurricane seemed to be rolling through Mineola on May 28.

Kiwanis gave us a generous donation and it will be used to further library programs and materials.

Rotary gave us a generous donation to help fund the school summer reading and the bookmobile.

We received a Dollar General Summer Reading Grant and that will be used to help with summer reading program expenses.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit. No city or county funds support us. Your donations mean a lot and are greatly appreciated.
