A full house emptied out quickly once the Mineola ISD board handed out the May recognitions on the 20th.

Leading off were the top two grads of the Class of 2024, Valedictorian Chevelle Smith and Salutatorian Yuka Torres, whose introductions were brief so they could attend the annual senior dinner.

Students of the months included primary campus, Alaia Zelaya and Damian Nunez from Head Start-prekindergarten, elementary 4th graders Wyatt Stamper and Aria Hopson, middle school eighth graders Camden Quiambao and Azalea Perez and high school juniors Jackson Bamberg and Meelah Amason.

Sue Holt, who is retiring from student nutrition, was recognized as support staff of the month.

Teacher of the month was science teacher Deborah Armstrong, also the high school campus teacher of the year.

Four FFA teams that qualified for state in the career development contests were recognized: dairy cattle judging, agriculture sales, milk quality products and floriculture.

Bransyn Anderson was recognized in absentia for qualifying for the girls state golf tournament as a medallist.

And the girls 4x400 relay team of Raylie Peebles, Carmen Carrasco, Stephanie Rojas and Olivia Hughes were honored for qualifying for the state meet.
