Mineola traffic crash leads to murder charges

Two 16-year-old juveniles involved in a traffic crash in Mineola Tuesday, Feb. 17 have been charged with murder after the unborn child of the driver of the other vehicle passed away last week. The child was at 19 weeks.

Both juveniles were hospitalized with major injuries. They were found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

According to Mineola police, a pickup being driven by a 16-year-old ran a stop sign at FM 1801 and East Loop 564 and into the path of an oncoming SUV. Both vehicles struck a light pole following the collision.

The juveniles were taken to the Wood County Juvenile Department Thursday, April 2 facing charges of murder of the unborn child and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group two, four grams or more but less than 400 – a first degree felony.

The pregnant female also had a minor child passenger in the vehicle, who was evaluated and released from the hospital.
