Mineola ISD Superintendent Cody Mize said the district is off to a great start to the new school year.

He told the school board and audience Sept. 9 that construction of the new elementary campus is right around the corner, and the site plan is almost ready to be announced.

Student recognitions included second graders Ava Arbter and Jace Blackwell from the primary campus, fifth graders C.J. Hunter and Greenly Herrington from elementary, sixth graders Riggen Smith and Kiara Calamohoy from middle school and freshmen Alexander Lualua and Destinee Sandy from high school.

Support staff of the month was bus driver Bruce Smith and team member of the month was primary school aide Kelsey Young, who is pursuing a teaching career.

Enrollment for the new year was reported as 1,613 the first day and has risen to 1,640. Last year enrollment was 1,633.

The district’s fund balance of $7.6 million has risen by $18,000 in the past year, Business Manager William Bjork announced.
