Modene Starnes, 67, passed away May 1, 2024 at her home in Winnsboro after complications from a lengthy battle with lupus. She was born on April 23, 1957 in Mineola to Odell and Lottie Nell Williams.

Modene was preceded in death by her soul mate, Jim Wainscott; her parents, Odell and Lottie Nell Williams; and a brother, Bernard Williams.

She is survived by one sister, Nell (Loyd) Robertson of Hawkins; four brothers, Ed (Frances) Williams of Hawkins, Melton Dee Williams of Hawkins, Lloyd {Lori Avery Rowland) Williams of Quitman and Bobby (Dana) Williams of Mineola; three stepsons, Jimmy (Lisa) Wainscott, Jr. of Hamlin, Charlie (Casey) Wainscott of Spur and Heath (Brittney) Talley of Rockwall; two granddaughters, Raven and Maddie Talley of Winnsboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and Callie, her beloved cat.

The simplest pleasures in life brought joy and sweet smiles to Moe’s face. She loved taking care of people, old and young. This was shown in the way she lived her life. She worked in several local nursing homes, at the Salesmanship Club Youth Camp and as a waitress. Modene loved taking care of plants and her roses. She was well-known for having numerous hummingbirds, as well as many dogs and cats over her years. She loved spending time with “her girls” riding the golf cart, going to the Waterpark or just sitting at the kitchen table coloring. Aunt Nini, as she was known by her nieces and nephews, was the “greatest Aunt ever known to mankind.” She would have summer sleepovers and weekend hangouts and there were never too many kids. And oh the stories that could be told!

The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas for the care they gave Modene so she could be at home. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 25, from 1-4 p.m. at the home of Nell and Loyd Robertson.
