Quitman tamed by Lady Tigers
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs dropped their second district matchup Monday, falling to the visiting Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers, 13-2.
Mt. Vernon scored one run in the top of the first. The lead remained one until the sixth, when they scored one more.
Down two, Quitman opened with bunts by Addison Marcee and Allie Berry, with Marcee being called out on a force at second that was close enough to warrant protest.
Larkin Spears got a hit and Kennedi Elmore drove Spears and Berry in with a double off the left field wall to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the seventh.
Elmore tamed the Lady Tigers on the mound for six innings, but then they figured her out. Mt. Vernon simply put the ball in play repeatedly and errors compounded for an 11-run inning, which dashed the Lady Bulldogs' hopes.
