The Mineola Historical Museum will celebrate its 15th anniversary Monday, Sept. 9 with a reception and a rededication of the cornerstone time capsule.

The capsule was removed from the former post office last summer as part of the activities of the Mineola city sesquicentennial.

Historical items were placed in the capsule when the building was dedicated as a post office in 1936.

The new capsule is scheduled to be unveiled in 50 years with items collected by the Mineola Landmark Commission.

Commission members discussed plans last Thursday for two other upcoming events, the dedication of an historical marker for the East Texas Serenaders, tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21.

The group Skillet Licorice is scheduled to play some Serenaders songs at the dedication, followed by their appearance at the Select Theater the following night.

The commission is still rounding up homes for its annual Christmas tour of homes to be held on Sunday, Dec. 7.

The commission also decided on a standard format for local historical markers.

Two downtown buildings received approval for proposed changes, the sign at the new location on MarSyl on N.Johnson and the awning at Kitchens Hardware.
