Pedestrian dies on 80
A Grand Saline woman died in a vehicle-pedestrian traffic accident on Thursday, Oct. 26 three miles east of Grand Saline on U.S. Hwy. 80.
The Texas Highway Patrol preliminary investigation indicates a 2011 Toyota Tundra pickup driven by Shane Douglas Pickering, 37, of Quitman was eastbound on U.S. 80.
A pedestrian, Autumn Sierra McLane, 23, of Grand Saline was in the eastbound lane.
Pickering took evasive action but struck McLane, who died at the scene. Pickering was uninjured.
The mishap occurred at 12:45 p.m. in a 70 miles per hour speed zone, and the road was wet.
