Pedestrian safety measure
Construction continues on a new pedestrian crosswalk along Hwy. 37 (S. Main St.) in Quitman, adjacent to the Jim Hogg City Park, near Redbud Lane.
The project includes a new center island that allows pedestrians to stop in the center of the road in the former turning lane in order to more safely navigate the crossing, which will not be controlled by a light.
The project also includes a sidewalk to the south, and the city hopes to have an additional sidewalk to the north to allow better access to shopping areas.
