Primary runoff early voting begins
The state party primary runoff elections will be held on Tuesday, May 24. No local races are contested.
Early voting is May 16-20 at the county elections office in Quitman from 8-5.
The runoffs are required because no candidate received 50% of the vote in the primary.
The statewide races on the ballot include three Republican positions: attorney general between George P. Bush and Ken Paxton, land commissioner between Dawn Buckingham and Tim Westley and railroad commissioner between Wayne Christian and Sarah Stogner.
On the Democratic side, races include attorney general between Rochelle Garza and Joe Jaworski, lieutenant governor between Michelle Beckley and Mike Collier, land commissioner between Jay Kleberg and Sandragrace Martinez and comptroller between Janet T. Dudding and Angel Luis Veg.
Voter registration for the runoff continues until April 25.
Those who voted in the March 1 primary may cast ballots only in the same party’s runoff. Those who did not vote in the primary may choose to participate in either one.
