Several noteworthy topics were addressed in the Quitman ISD board meeting Feb. 12.

One of the topics that will most affect staff and students to QISD is the new IT project “to replace and update the secondary internet/wifi infrastructure.” This project will be almost entirely paid for through the E-Rate grant for $186,847, which comes through the Texas Department of Information Resources. The remaining cost to the district is $37,369.

The school administration has received bids for the elementary school roof. According to Mason, “The architect is tabulating and ranking those bids now.”

The board also approved the QISD 2024-25 district calendar. School will start Aug. 5 for teachers and Aug. 13 for students and end May 22, with graduation May 23. Fall break is Oct. 11-16 for students. Spring break is March 17-21. Fall semester ends Dec. 20 and spring semester starts Jan. 7.

Mason let attendees know that QISD student enrollment is up to 1,221.

QISD has recently implemented additional custodial work “to deep clean common spaces to help limit the spread of germs,” he said.
