QISD board purchases more ChromeBooks

oard members approved the purchase of 185 more Chromebooks to be dispersed on all three campuses at Monday’s meeting.

There will be 125 ChromeBooks at the high school, 35 at the junior high and 25 at the elementary level.

The 25 at the elementary school will go to replace those in the computer lab. The board accepted the bid of the SHI Company for $59,350.

The board approved Superintendent Chris Mason to hire and issue contracts to certified staff beginning April 18 through Aug. 18.

The board approved the TEKS certification and allotment for the 2023-24 school year. The board also approved the renewal of student accident insurance for 2023-24.

Mason reported there were 1,229 students enrolled. Attendance is back up to 96%. 

Upon returning from executive session the board approved the hiring of Amanda Prather at the elementary school, Sundowne Smith who will teach English II at the high school and Julie Wade to teach algebra 1 and college algebra.

The board did not take action on the selection of an architect/engineer for district construction projects for the 2023-24 school year.

During the public comments Sally Attaway praised the board for their work.

Attaway, a member of the Wood County Child Welfare and Protection board, reminded the board about the Candlelight Vigil next Tuesday at Jim Hogg City Park at the Kiwanis basketball courts starting at 5:15 p.m.

Brant Lee and Corey Hammond of the Agriculture Department introduced a few of the students who were successful at the Wood County Junior Livestock Show held recently at the new facility.

Lee thanked the board and the community for their support of the program.
