QISD board shares goals with community

Posted

The Quitman Independent School District recently hosted a public event with its board of trustees to foster transparency and community engagement. The gathering was meant to be a “meet and greet” type event, in which the board gave a short presentation to display the upcoming QISD goals; after the presentation, community members were invited to come up, meet the board and ask any questions they might have.

One of the major themes discussed in the meeting was the new “scorecard system,” in which the school’s progress in meeting ongoing QISD goals can be quantified and rated. QISD Superintendent Chris Mason says that this will go even further to “(ensure) accountability and continuous improvement within the district.”

The presentation noted that three of the board’s main goals at the moment are that “all students will show growth annually in English language arts and reading,” that “all students will show growth annually in mathematics,” and that “QISD students will be life-ready.”

While the event unfortunately did not have overwhelming attendance, presenters are hoping that more community members will take advantage of this helpful resource when it’s next held at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year. Mason says that they will also do a similar event next spring.
