Quitman Bulldogs fall to Grand Saline after strong start
After a strong opening quarter, the Quitman Bulldogs couldn’t maintain their momentum Friday night, falling 81-44 on the road to the Grand Saline Indians.
Quitman came out firing with one of its best first-quarter performances of the season. Jonathan Hayes and Klayton Meadows set the tone offensively as the Bulldogs built a 16-10 lead by the end of the period.
Grand Saline, however, found its rhythm in the second quarter and took control of the game, outscoring Quitman 22-7 to claim a 33-32 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs struggled to keep pace in the second half and were unable to match Grand Saline’s offensive surge.
Grand Saline added 21 points in the third quarter while holding Quitman to nine. The Indians pulled away in the final period, scoring 28 points compared to Quitman’s 12 to seal the 81-44 victory.
Hayes led Quitman with 15 points, including four three-pointers. Senior Klayton Meadows added eight points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Matthew Moore continued his strong play with seven points and five rebounds, while Riley Mason added five points and three rebounds. Logan Davis knocked down a three-pointer and added a steal, an assist and a rebound. Lucas Sandifer, Ben Boisclair and Ty Harkins each contributed a basket.
