The Quitman Lady Bulldogs finished the 2022 season on a positive note, with a 3-0 home victory over the Winona Lady Cats.

Lone Lady 'Dog senior Sofia Tannebaum was honored before the match.

Quitman started strong with a quick 6-0 lead out of the gate. They pushed the advantage to 16-6 before taking the opening game 25-11.

The second game opened more competitively, with the score knotted at 4-4. The Lady Bulldogs then went on a short run to go up 8-4, then extended that lead to 15-8.

Winona woke up, pulling with in four at 19-15, but would not catch up. Quitman took the second game 25-17.

The Lady 'Dogs remained in control through the third game, getting out if front 8-4, then 13-5. Quitman held a 20-13 edge and finished off the Lady Cats 25-15.

Only losing Tannebaum to graduation, the Lady Bulldogs have a chance to come back significatly stronger next season, their second under head coach Allison Head.

With junior setter Ashley Davis missing most of the season with an arm injury, sophomore Peyton Kruckner moved up from JV and showed promise, both setting and serving.

The absence of standout alumnus Ava Burroughs was felt on the front line, but freshman Annabelle Popek was a welcome new presence at the net with the ability to become a force there, along with all-around talent Allie Berry, who could be seen getting a more solid sense of how to use her height and athleticism.

They will all likely look to a healthy Davis and fellow senior-to-be, libero Addison Marcee, whose willingness to put her body on the line for digs could be inspiring to her teammates and deflating to opponents.
