Quitman Development Corp. approves facade grants
The Quitman Development Corporation voted to give Haley Papez one more extension for Mainstreet Mechanical.
The QDC voted to give the Papez’ a final extension in December, which was to be due in January. However, the Papez’ brought documentation of their construction orders to the January meeting, which spurred the council to set a new final deadline of Feb. 12.
“That’s just because they did their due diligence in getting everything ordered,” said Allan Gilbert, the QDC executive director. “(Feb. 12) will be the final. The work has to be done by then; that’s the final.”
The QDC board voted to approve a $480 grant for the Wood County Old Settlers Reunion, whose board will replace two panels of a wooden sign in front of the Jim Hogg City Park. They also approved a grant for Jeremy May’s building located at 107 N Main St., which will be in the amount of $3,000.
105 N. Main St., also owned by Jeremy May, was approved for a façade grant in the amount of $3,000 at the December QDC meeting.
Gilbert notified the board that the Your Service Center façade construction was completed by deadline, and that the grant in the amount of $2,792 was already disbursed. The Star Mart façade was also completed, and the grant for $1,500 will be disbursed soon.
In a workshop immediately following the QDC meeting, the board discussed assigning members to head up items in the Community Action Plan, and updated QDC bylaws that were out of date.
