The Quitman Lady Bulldogs closed the book on their 2026 softball season last week, taking on Edgewood and Eustace in a pair of final contests that tested the team’s resolve from first pitch to last. Quitman lost against Edgewood 11-0 on Tuesday and then lost to Eustace 10-0 on Friday. 

In their matchup with Edgewood, Quitman found the going tough early on. The Lady Bulldogs were limited offensively, managing just one hit on the day. Kori Hammond had one hit, going 1-for-2 at the plate and continuing to put together quality at-bats even against a tough pitching performance.

At the pitcher’s mound, Jaleigh Hood put in five innings of work, striking out four and walking two. She allowed 11 runs on 11 hits, though only three of those runs were earned, highlighting Quitman’s effort to battle through defensive pressure. Despite the scoreboard, the Lady Bulldogs continued to compete and put in effort.

Quitman returned to the field for their season finale against Eustace on Friday, where they fell 10-0. The Lady Bulldogs were never able to find a rhythm on offense, finishing the game without a hit, but continued to battle at the plate and work counts throughout the contest.

Hood again shouldered the load at the pitcher’s mound and showed determination, recording eight strikeouts over four and two-thirds innings. She allowed five hits and 10 runs – five earned – while issuing eight walks. Her ability to generate swings and misses remained a bright spot, even as the Lady Bulldogs faced a disciplined lineup.

While the final week didn’t produce the results Quitman was aiming for, the Lady Bulldogs showed grit and perseverance to the very end.
