Quitman ISD buying property for bus barn
Quitman ISD school board trustees approved a resolution authorizing the superintendent to negotiate the purchase of 4.98 acres at 1004 E. Goode St.
The seller is Joe W. Dimock and the building and acreage is located at the site where Texas Dept. of Transportation once existed.
“This purchase will be for a new bus barn and maintenance headquarters. It’s something we really need,” Superintendent Rhonda Turner said.
A memorandum of understanding with UT-Tyler was approved for teachers for professional development.
A waiver on class size at Quitman Elementary School was approved. There are two third grade classes and three fourth grade classes. In case classes get larger, the district may have to hire an additional teacher if necessary.
Prior to the meeting Turner was presented a handmade quilt from the board made by member Jane Herring in honor of her retirement. The quilt had a camper theme. Turner and her husband, Scott, plan to travel.
Turner reported a district enrollment of 1,214. Turner said the new agriculture barn is coming along on schedule and the work to remodel the IT department was underway. The 2022 audit was also approved.
