Quitman Junior High football teams hit the road Thursday, Sept. 17, to take on Eustace, with the Bulldogs splitting the two games. The eighth-grade Bulldogs came away with a hard-fought 12-6 victory, while the seventh-grade team battled Eustace in a 36-24 loss.

EIGHTH GRADE
Quitman 12, Eustace 6
Minh Nguyen was a force on both sides of the ball, setting the physical tone throughout the game. His play on the line opened running lanes for the offense while his defensive pressure disrupted the Eustace backfield. Nguyen consistently penetrated the line and helped stop plays before they could develop.
Cash Gilbreath stepped in at quarterback following an injury and helped guide the Bulldogs through a close game. He managed the offense under pressure, made smart decisions and helped keep drives alive as Quitman secured the victory.
With one second remaining and Quitman backed up at its own 1-yard line, Beckham Gibson came up with a game-saving defensive play. Gibson hit the Eustace ball carrier and forced a fumble, preserving the Bulldogs’ 12-6 victory.

SEVENTH GRADE
Eustace 36, Quitman 24
Colby Riojas led a physical Quitman rushing attack, consistently gaining yards after contact and helping keep the Bulldogs’ offense moving.
Dalton Spears contributed in the passing game with several key receptions. His route running and reliable hands gave Quitman a downfield option and helped extend drives.
Quarterback Jace Low also made an impact with his legs. His vision and mobility helped keep the Eustace defense off balance and allowed the Bulldogs to extend drives as they battled through the final whistle.
