The Quitman Lady Bulldogs dominated the Grand Saline Indians with a commanding 69-22 victory last Friday, Jan. 16, on their home court at Ballard Gym.

Quitman wasted no time setting the tone. With three early 3-pointers, they scored first and jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead within the opening two minutes. The Lady Bulldogs never looked back, overwhelming Grand Saline 266 by the end of the first quarter. The momentum continued into the second quarter as Quitman added 20 more points, while the Indians managed just five, sending the teams into halftime with the Lady Bulldogs in full control with a score of 46-11.

Quitman opened the second half by striking first early on and continuing to relentlessly pressure the Indians. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Grand Saline 17-1 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 63-12. Grand Saline edged Quitman 10-6 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. The final score stood at 69-22 for another decisive Lady Bulldog win.

The victory marked the end of the first round of district play, with Quitman sitting at 4-2 as they head into the second round.

Laine Kelly led the way with an outstanding all-around performance, scoring 21 points while collecting two offensive rebounds, four defensive rebounds, and three steals. Kinsley McCutcheon caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down five 3-pointers. Addison Sapp continued her strong court presence, earning 14 points, five rebounds, and an impressive six steals. Autumn Cason added seven points, five steals, and four rebounds, while Lynlee Taylor contributed seven points, six rebounds, and three steals. Kaylin Sapp added a 3-pointer along with a rebound and a steal, and Annabelle Popek scored a bucket, grabbed three offensive rebounds, and recorded a steal.

Coach Blake Hamrick said he was proud of the girls’ performance after coming off a disappointing game on Tuesday. He said he hopes the momentum from the win carries over into their Friday game.
