Quitman Library Connections
A new year is a great time to begin earning a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, which serves as an alternative to a traditional high school diploma. Free GED tutoring is available at the library each Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. It is taught by a degreed, professionally trained tutor who specializes in math and essay writing. QPL Knitting & Crochet Class regularly meets each Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this growing group. Classes are free.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Thursday, Feb. 12, at noon. The Friends now meet in the library’s Shamburger Community Room on the 2nd Thursday of February, May, September, and December.
Whyte Dove Writers Group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at the library. You are welcome to join this group of regional authors, editors, and aspiring writers who meet to discuss, review and share techniques.
Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on the 1st Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited.
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets every 3rd Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room.
Board Games for Teens meets every other Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas, and is designed for teens ages 13 – 19. Call the library to confirm game days.
Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours. Walk-ins are welcome, but to guarantee an appointment, call the library’s front desk.
